Eagles talk: Is Jim Schwartz too involved in roster and hiring decisions?
Let’s revisit some very recent history.
Shortly after the news on Jenkins broke, the ‘Birds’ re-signed Jalen Mills and Rodney Mcleod. Later that same evening, they gave $39 million to Javon Hargrave. While no disrespect is meant towards any of those guys, a successful argument can be made that Jenkins filled a bigger need at his position than all three of those other guys filled at theirs.
Come on, would you rather have Jenkins at safety or Mills? Come on. Philly already has Fletcher Cox, and they’re getting a very expensive Malik Jackson back in 2020. Did they need another defensive tackle?
Again, no one has stated there’s anything personal between Jenkins and Schwartz, Jenkins and the Eagles brass, or that there are any issues in any line that can be drawn between anyone mentioned. We do know Jenkins is the ultimate competitor, and it’s probably safe to say that, in his mind, Roseman, Pederson, and Schwartz didn’t appreciate his value.
If that is what he’s thinking, most could probably agree with that being a fair statement.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz, the New Orleans Saints gave Malcolm Jenkins a four years extension worth $32 million. $16.25 million of that is guaranteed. Come on Philly couldn’t give Jenkins $8 million per season? What player with Jenkins’ talent wouldn’t be upset or offended? That doesn’t seem personal? If your wheels are turning, don’t worry. You’re not in the minority.
