. . . Darius Slay, cornerback. . player. 54

Nobody wants to admit this now, but there were a few moans and even more groans following the news that the guy the Eagles and some of their fans truly wanted, Byron Jones, had eschewed an opportunity to play in Philly to go hang out in South Beach to become a member of the Miami Dolphins.

Now, while, on the surface, it just doesn’t appear as though attracting talent to one of the most beautiful cities in the country should be difficult, but we’ve seen how far this proud franchise has fallen. The fact of the matter is guys were trying to hightail it out of there at the beginning of the 2019 campaign.

Fast forward, and now, not only are the Eagles unable to beat the Dolphins in a must-win game, but they also are getting beaten by this team in free agency. The best available corner on the market decided to migrate to Florida, and two guys who were with Philly a season ago, Jordan Howard and Kamu Grugier-Hill decided to join him.

Missing on Jones wasn’t encouraging. Seeing the second guy on everyone’s list, James Bradberry, sign with the rival New York Giants was arguably even more stressful, but Philly made up for all of that by picking up Darius Slay. Sure, he wasn’t actually a free-agent signing. Philly had to trade a third-round and a fifth-round draft choice to acquire his services. Then, they had to give him a three-year extension on top of that.

Still, even with all of that being said, this is the highlight of the offseason so far if you’re a ‘Birds’ fan so far. Slay was the best option outside of Jones and Bradberry, and Howie Roseman nailed this one. Kudos to him for doing so. Grade: A+
