Production
Denzel Mims 2019: 13 games, 66 receptions, 1,020 yards,12 touchdowns. Career: 40 games, 186 receptions, 2925 yards, 28 touchdowns
Mims finished his Baylor career top-six in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Charlie Brewer made no doubts about who his favorite target was.
While its easy to make jokes about the defensive ineptitude of the Big 12, Mims has been a force in Waco for most of his collegiate career. The rejuvenation of the Baylor program helped Matt Rhule land an NFL gig and Mims was a building block. He was dealt a large workload and should be an NFL contributor from Day 1.
Justin Jefferson 2019: 15 games,111 receptions, 1,540 yards, 18 touchdowns. Career: 30 games,165 receptions, 2,415 yards, 24 touchdowns
Jefferson had a monstrous final season at LSU. 111 catches is a school record that passed the previous mark by 17.
18 touchdown grabs is good for second in school history and second on the team, as Ja’Marr Chase hauled in 20 en route to a National Championship.
Jefferson finished his three-year career at LSU fifth in receptions, sixth in yards, and third in touchdown receptions. He was a primary beneficiary and contributor of Joe Burrow arguably having the best college quarterbacking season of all time.
Without question, Jefferson’s most memorable performance may have been the four-touchdown first half against Oklahoma in the National Semifinal. The competition LSU faced between the SEC and the CFP was stout and Jefferson consistently produced at an elite level.
As a freshman, Jefferson did not record a single catch. In his second year, he hauled in 54 passes. That number more than doubled his junior season. Jefferson trended upwards in every year at Baton Rouge and is still only 20-years-old.
