Eagles should reach out to Panthers about potential D.J. Moore trade
By Dan Parzych
If the Philadelphia Eagles are still looking to acquire another wideout through a trade, they should reach out to the Carolina Panthers about D.J. Moore.
Based off the first week of free agency action, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles are going to wait until April’s draft to add another receiver or two to the passing game to avoid another situation like last season.
However, if the Eagles were in fact interested in trying to trade for a wideout to add some depth at the position before the draft, one name that comes to mind is D.J. Moore of the Carolina Panthers.
At the moment, the Panthers haven’t exactly expressed any interest in putting Moore on the trade block since the Maryland product is only coming off his second NFL season, but things can quickly change in the NFL.
With Carolina recently signing former New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson to a two-year deal, the Panthers receiving corps is looking pretty stacked all of a sudden since they already had Moore and Curtis Samuel.
And while the Panthers would love nothing more than to see all three receivers be productive, Carolina also knows situations like this are easier said than done to handle sometimes, especially when players like Moore are eventually going to need new deals.
With Moore crushing his previous career highs in 2019 by catching 87 passes for 1,175 yards to go along with four touchdowns, the speedster seems like the kind of player who is only going to continue getting better with NFL experience.
In other words, if this turns out to be the case, Moore’s asking price for his next deal after the 2021 season is only going to continue to rise, meaning the Panthers could benefit from trading him now instead of seeing how things play out down the road.
Depending on what Carolina’s asking price would be, even if Philadelphia were forced to give up a significant draft pick, a player with Moore’s skill set would make a trade like this well worth it.
Between all of the uncertainty surrounding Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson at the moment due to injuries last season, there’s no question the Eagles are going to need some sort of extra help at wideout this offseason.
Moore seems like a long shot at the moment, but if Carolina drops any sort of hint about being open to some sort of trade, Philadelphia should strongly consider getting in on the action.
