5 moves Philadelphia Eagles should make before 2020 NFL Draft
By Dan Parzych
1. Trade Maddox
When it comes to the biggest offseason moves so far for the Eagles, there’s no question that acquiring Darius Slay deserves to be near the top of the list since the cornerback helps fill a major need on the defensive side of the football.
As for the No. 2 job alongside Slay, well this is where things get interesting for Philadelphia since they currently have a handful of cornerbacks competing for the gig, one of which happens to be Avonte Maddox.
Back in 2018 during the draft, the Eagles felt confident enough in Maddox turning out to be a potential steal after selecting the former Pittsburgh star in the fourth round.
And while Maddox has certainly provided some meaningful performances for the defense over the last two seasons, the argument can also be made that Philadelphia expected more from the young cornerback at this stage in his career.
Take this into consideration with the fact that Sidney Jones hasn’t exactly found a way to be consistent either, it’s easy to see why the No. 2 job at cornerback still appears to be open leading up to the draft for the Eagles.
A case can be made for Philadelphia to hang on to Maddox to see if he shows improvement entering his third NFL season, but also it should be noted that Jones appears to be making the right progress as well this offseason.
Finding a trade partner for Maddox might be tough, but even if the Eagles landed an additional draft pick as a result, this could still help during the draft.
