Patience is a virtue, and Philadelphia Eagles fans could see that theirs has been rewarded after the NFL’s draft in April.

“Really Howie? We’re not doing anything?” That was the attitude of quite a few Philadelphia Eagles fans and the media when the free agency period kicked off. Never since Doug Pederson has been the coach had the “Birds” had more available resources with which to strengthen their roster.

They had ten draft picks after being awarded those compensatory picks. They had upwards of $40 million to spend on talent before any of us would even have to discuss anything about a salary cap. Much was expected when the offseason began, but when “The Frenzy” finally kicked off, Philly was relatively quiet.

They picked up the intensity later and went on to add four guys on defense. Javon Hargrave, Will Parks, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and Jatavis Brown were signed, and their names began floating around. Darius Slay was acquired via trade. That cost Philly two of those draft picks. Philly also re-signed Jalen Mills and Rodney McLeod. Oh, and they made the decision to keep Nate Sudfeld in the fold for some reason. It’s still hard to come up with a reason as to why they feel that he’s so valuable of a commodity.

Philly’s been busy, but it appears that no other moves will take place until after the selection meeting. The guess is the Eagles may address some of their needs on offense there. Could we then state that would eat up about $9 million in salary, give or take a few million?

At about lunchtime on Friday, according to Spotrac, under the adjusted salary cap number of $222.7 million, Philly had about $27.8 million in cap space. Factor in the salaries for the rookies, and the “Birds” could walk into the regular season with around $19 million in spending change. Don’t be surprised if one or two more major moves aren’t made after April. Be patient ladies in gentlemen. More fun may be on the way. Here are two potential targets at wide receiver that we’ll bring up for the sake of argument.
