Negativity tends to move the meter, but the Philadelphia Eagles have made quite a few moves that should make you smile during these rough times.

Without taking anything away from the guys who have won the trophy, something needs to be said. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award could be given to a member of the Philadelphia Eagles every season.

It’s become one of the most prestigious awards in all of football, and rightfully so. It’s an honor given to honor the charity work of some of the game’s most gifted athletes.

For any fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s commonplace to see the community efforts of so many of the organization’s fixtures, whether it be the work that chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie does with his Eagles Autism Challenge, the work former Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins did in informing people of social injustice, Carson Wentz’s AO1 Foundation, or what Zach Ertz and his wife Julie have done with the Ertz Family Foundation.

Oh, and don’t forget Chris Long, who won The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2018. His Chris Long Foundation has provided clean water in East Africa. He’s also literally played the game for free on occasion as he donated his entire salary in 2017 and his first four checks in 2018 toward various charities and launching his “First Quarter for Literacy” program.

The philanthropy of various Eagles has continued in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the world of journalism, negativity tends to move the needle, but right now, let’s try something different. Let’s shed light on a few stories of a positive nature that haven’t gotten enough burn.
