Philadelphia Eagles: A modern-day Mount Rushmore

There’s been nothing in the 87-year history of Philadelphia Eagles football like the Jeffrey Lurie era. Let’s carve a modern-day Mount Rushmore.

Come June, we’re all going to be talking about 87 years of Philadelphia Eagles football. There have been hundreds of coaches, thousands of players to don that iconic green jersey, and four championships to celebrate.

The first two came in back-to-back fashion in 1948 and 1949. Another came as Buck Shaw led 1960’s version of the “Birds” to their third championship in a 17-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers which was, interestingly enough, the only playoff game Vince Lombardi lost as a head coach.

Two Super Bowls followed. Both were losses, but the Eagles’ third trip to football’s biggest game would prove to be the charm. They took care of business against the greatest coach and quarterback in the history of this great game and, quite possibly, the greatest dynasty in the history of sports, the New England Patriots.

Current owner, Jeffrey Lurie‘s run has been the most successful run of any owner in team history. He hired the team’s winningest coach, Andy Reid. He hired the coach that won them that elusive Super Bowl, Doug Pederson. The Eagles have tallied, at the time of this story being published, 246 wins versus 197 losses with two ties, including the playoffs.

With that being said, let’s look at Lurie’s era and carve our very own Mount Rushmore, shall we?
