It will be interesting to see the fallout from this one. The Philadelphia Eagles miss out on an opportunity to see Brandin Cooks.
Just when you thought things were getting a little stale, the NFL continues to remain silent in a world that’s supposed to be void of sports. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, right around dinner time on the East Coast, the Philadelphia Eagles sat quietly as yet another premier talent we all thought that they were interested in wound up on the roster of someone else.
The Houston Texans have done what they can to pacify their fans after their boneheaded decision to move on from DeAndre Hopkins as they’re ending a second-round selection to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Brandin Cooks.
Take a look for yourselves.
The #Texans are sending a 2nd round pick to the #Rams in exchange for WR Brandin Cooks and a future fourth-round pick, source said.

Buckle up. Here are three immediate reactions.
1. Was Philly even involved in this one?
There were some concerns following the DeAndre Hopkins trade that Philadelphia was actually in the discussion but backed away from the negotiating table when the asking price turned out to be too high (as if anything else would be the expectation). Quite a few fans and members of the media were disappointed that Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman couldn’t force a trade
The Texans received running back David Johnson, a 2020 second-round pick, and a 2021 fourth-round pick as a result of that one, while Houston got Hopkins and a fourth-rounder.
At the time of this story being published, there’s been no word about whether or not Philly made any offer To L.A.
2. Philly absolutely has to go with a wide receiver in the first round now right? Not so fast!
This question can be answered by mentioning several theories. One, we can now definitively state that Philly is intent on addressing their wide receiver needs by drafting at least one wide receiver by the time we reach the end of April, and if we’re being truthful, with eight selections, it may be wise for them to take two of them.
Might Justin Jefferson be the guy at 21? That seems to be who quite a few fans want, but keep in mind the fact that Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett could both be gone after the 2020-2021 season. Don’t be surprised if Philly addresses another need in Round 1 like landing a legitimate pass rusher and they wait until Round 2 to select their first wide receiver with this being a very deep draft class at the pass-catching position.
3. What does this say about Cooks’ value?
While some would state a second-rounder is about the right asking price for someone of Cooks’ stature, others might argue that there will be several wide receivers around pick 57 that could, at minimum, give anyone making that selection a younger player with an equally impressive skillset
It’s too early to tell which of those theories is accurate. Let’s all revisit this at the close of the Texans season and anyone who takes a wide receiver at pick 57 or later.
