The “Birds” go with “The Moustache” at 167.

This one stings, and it got ugly very quickly. Clayton Thorson didn’t even make it out of the preseason. He never showed that he could provide competition for Nate Sudfeld, and that alone says a ton. Mistakes are going to happen from a rookie quarterback’s standpoint, but the check-down passes that Thorson missed are unacceptable regardless of what round a quarterback is taken in.

Thorson showed a little bit of life in his second preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he ultimately had a forgettable tenure with the Eagles. In his four games as an Eagle, he completed 30 passes on 62 attempts (48.4 completion percentage) for 206 yards (4.3 yards per attempt) with one touchdown and three interceptions. In his one start, he completed 12 of 26 pass attempts (46.2 completion percentage) for 84 yards with one interception in 6-0 loss to the New York Jets.

At Northwestern, there wasn’t much from a statistical standpoint that showed he would succeed at the next level. While he was able to produce some wins, he finished his four-year career with a 118.1 rating, a 58.4-percent completion percentage, 10,731 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, and 45 interceptions in 53 games. If you need a comparison, Sudfeld finished his time at Indiana with a 144.1 rating, 60.3 completion percentage, 7,879 yards, 61 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions in just 38 games.
