Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Immediate reactions to those Denzel Mims rumors
3. Here’s what a couple of experts are saying.
Outside of ranking Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, and Justin Jefferson as the top three receivers who will be available in 2020’s NFL Draft, the theories on everyone else vary.
Is Tee Higgins the last of the top tier of receivers in this class, or is he the best of that second tier? Where does Chase Claypool fall? Should all of these reports of injuries and surgeries concern us? Everyone has their questions and their answers, but here’s what seems to be pretty consistent.
Denzel Mims is in everyone’s top ten of the best wide receiver prospects in this draft. In addition to his speedy 40-yard dash time, he also showcased a 38.5-inch vertical jump. That was after throwing up 16 reps in the bench press and before he helped himself with a 131-inch broad jump and showings of 6.66 seconds and 4.43 seconds in the three-cone drill and the 20-yard shuttle.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared him to Tre’Quan Smith as he gave readers a ton of info in his draft profile. He also gives him a grade of 6.33, which means he’ll be an NFL starter sometime during his first two seasons. Here’s a quote from Kyle Crabbs from Mims’ profile in The Draft Network.
"Denzel Mims projects as an X-receiver at the NFL level. With his notable catch radius, physical play and high end body control, Mims projects as a potential starter at the pro level. He brings developing routes and effective play side blocking to the field which will help him find reps early on in his pro career as he looks to add further refinement to his game. Mims enjoyed a career season in 2019 and appears to have the arrow facing up as he transitions into the pro game."
It sounds like, if the “Birds are interested, they’re definitely doing their homework.
Keep an eye on him. Philly most certainly is. We’ll have to wait and see if he climbs on everyone else’s draft board, but for now, one thing is certain. He’s firmly on the one belonging to the Philadelphia Eagles.
