Philadelphia Eagles: Ranking 2020 NFL Draft’s top 20 safeties
Here’s the best way to describe Antoine Winfield Jr.’s physical frame to an Eagles fan. He’s three inches taller than Boston Scott, and he’s about two pounds heavier.
This dude is small, but he plays with the heart of a lion just like, well, Boston Scott.
In 2019, he channeled his inner-Ed Reed, covering the field like someone with three more years of experience as he snagged seven interceptions (yes, that says seven). He also racked up 85 tackles to go along with three sacks. If he was six-foot-tall, he’d be getting first-round grades.
Whenever coaches from the Southern Illinois Salukis do any recruiting going forward, they might throw the words “Jeremy Chinn played here” into their pitch.
The term “diamond in the rough” applies. Write his name down if you don’t know it. You’re going to be hearing it in the NFL for a long time. The same can be said for Kyle Dugger of the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, the third-best safety on this list.
If you’ve already tossed that piece of paper that you wrote Chinn’s name on to the side, grab it and add Dugger’s name to it. Then, place it somewhere that you look often. Both of these guys are going to make a few All-Pro rosters before their long careers are over.
The only two safeties on this list are better than they are both played their college ball in the SEC. They take the top two spots.
