Here’s why Philadelphia Eagles need to sign free agent Marqise Lee
Who is Marqise Lee? Here’s a quick look at some recent history.
Marqise Lee had a bit of a rocky start to his NFL career. His first two seasons with Jacksonville resulted in an underwhelming 422 and 191 yards receiving respectively. He also only started one game in 2015 due to injury.
Still, he was able to hit his stride in his third year with the Jaguars. In 2016, Lee played in all 16 regular-season games, and he racked up 851 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per reception, while also scoring three touchdowns. Lee ended 2016’s season as the Jags’ second-leading receiver. Allen Robinson led them but only eclipsed Lee by 30 yards.
In 2017, Lee produced 702 receiving yards over 14 games and averaged 12.7 yards per reception.
Unfortunately, Lee’s back to back impressive seasons were followed by a tough campaign in 2018. In a preseason game versus the Atlanta Falcons. Lee was taken out of the game following a nasty blow to the knee that ultimately ended his season before it had even begun.
Jacksonville attempted to bounce back from Lee’s injury by asking wide receiver Dede Westbrook to take a larger role in the offense, which now lacked any foundation due to Lee’s injury. Blake Bortles continued his mediocre showing, thanks in part to the loss of Robinson in free agency and Lee’s knee injury. The Jags’ future has seemed murky ever since. That brings us to the present
