3. Wentz’s history of injuries shows Eagles need reliable backup

First off, there is no way of knowing that Hurts has what it takes to be the reliable quarterback Philadelphia is looking for in case Wentz were to suffer some sort of injury down the road, but the potential is certainly there.

Thanks to an impressive college career that consisted of three years with the Crimson Tide before transferring to play for the Sooners this past season, Hurts was rightfully considered one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.

Even if Hurts didn’t hear his name on opening night of the draft, this doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of one day developing into a reliable starter at the NFL level, although it would most likely need to come on a different team other than the Eagles since Wentz isn’t going anywhere.

Speaking of Wentz, despite the former first-round pick finding a way to stay healthy all of last regular season, his previous history of injuries are always going to be a concern, especially each time he takes a nasty hit.

Philadelphia knew it would be difficult to find a reliable backup ever since former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles left for the Jacksonville Jaguars last offseason, and Hurts is obviously nowhere near the same level, at least there is plenty of potential to develop into a reliable quarterback.
