Check out this highlight reel featuring Eagles WR Jalen Reagor
The next time you’re on social media and someone says Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor isn’t explosive, make sure you show type “laugh out loud” in their comment section.
This next statement isn’t intended to overhype how good new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor is. It isn’t meant to diminish the accomplishments of Justin Jefferson, but since the topic of 40-yard dash times is a popular one these days, and since there’s a debate about whether or not Philly drafted Reagor too high, this needs to be said.
Here’s all that you need to know about how to evaluate 40 times. If someone is said to have run a disappointing 40, it’s probably because they look much faster in real-game action, where it counts. If someone runs a “disappointing” 40-yard dash, the reason is often that they might appear to be fast, but they aren’t as fast as people say they are.
That can be attributable to the level of competition that they’re playing. In most cases, nothing beats the good old eyeball test. What does that say to you? Many of you who have criticized Reagor, if we’re being honest, is because you haven’t watched a down of TCU Horned Frogs football.
Maybe this will help. Check out this highlight reel courtesy of the NCAA and Stadium’s official YouTube channel
Was Reagor drafted too high? Rumor has it that he was charging up draft boards as the draft began, and though there’s no real way to prove this, there’s no guarantee that the Minnesota Vikings wouldn’t have taken him at 22 had they had the chance.
That debate will rage about him until we see real football that counts again, but if this young man pops off of the screen. Once we see him work at the NFL level, no one will care if he was a first-rounder or a second-rounder if he explodes onto the scene, a very real possibility. Keep in mind the fact that the Eagles drafted Trevor Laws 47th-overall in the 2008 NFL Draft before taking DeSean Jackson at 49.
Trevor Laws was supposed to be a guy that Philly landed later than he should have been taken. Remember that? How did that analysis work out? If Reagor is the guy that Philly feels is the best for them and the best long-term answer for this franchise, they were right to take him over guys who may have been higher on other team’s draft boards.
Based on what we’ve all learned about him since his selection and based on how he carries himself on and off of the field, there’s no reason to believe that they’ve made a mistake.
