3. Devonta Freeman

Veteran running back Devonta Freeman will be entering his seventh season in the NFL. He does have a few miles on his legs, but the Eagles won’t need him to be the back he once was a few years ago.

In 77 career games, all with the Atlanta Falcons, Freeman has touched the ball 1,208 times for nearly 6,000 yards.

During the 2019 season, Freeman played in 14 games, and was Atlanta’s top back, but he didn’t produce like previous years.

Unfortunately, Freeman was returning from sports hernia surgery that had previously kept him out for most of 2018, but the injury didn’t seem to be the issue that resulted in average numbers.

The Falcons offensive line had difficulty keeping quarterback Matt Ryan upright as he was sacked a league high 48 times last season. Freeman struggled in the backfield, not because of his fading abilities, but because his offensive line was one of the worst in the entire league.

Sure, Freeman isn’t a prototypical bruiser that Philadelphia would pair alongside a quicker runner like Sanders, but his veteran presence to help other running backs is something Duce Staley would love to utilize.

The Eagles had Sproles for six seasons, and in his later years, he was more of a resource for other backs to use for running game wisdom.

This time around, Freeman could be that voice in the room, but would also be a highly productive second back.

Other than his 2018 sports hernia surgery, Freeman has seen a relatively clean injury history. The last thing the Eagles want to do is bring in a rusher that can’t stay healthy, and he should be a guy Philadelphia can rely on to play close to, if not all, 16 games.
