Well, most people ask for the bad news first. Let’s begin with some numbers.
Corey Clement’s story can’t be told without mentioning the fact that both the 2018 season and 2019 season reached their conclusions with “30” on Philly’s IR (injured reserve).
Sure, he tallied 259 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 2018, but on December 11th of that same year, a knee injury in Week 14 closed the curtain on what could have been a decent regular season and post-season run. 2019’s campaign was supposed to be different. It wasn’t. It was actually worse.
After four games where he helped out mostly as a special-teams contributor, a shoulder injury put a final nail in the coffin of what was supposed to be his 2019 run.
Since racking up eight rushing yards on three carries, taking the snap from center and tossing it to Trey Burton in the “Philly Special”, and hauling in four receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl 52, Clement’s stat line looks like this.
He’s added 259 rushing yards, 22 receptions for 192 yards, seven punt returns for 17 yards, 16 kick returns for 406 yards, 25 total first downs, four total tackles, and two trips to the end zone to the Eagles quest for a second Vince Lombardi Trophy. How does that translate to 2020? The answer is simple. It doesn’t.
