player. 54. . . . Jalen Hurts, QB, Round 2.

As you might imagine, there’s been some conversation surrounding the second-round selection of one Jalen Hurts. Part of the issue was there were so many Eagles fans and members of the media who couldn’t believe that Philly would go the route of adding a quarterback so early when there were so many other more pressing needs.

Keep in mind the fact that Carson Wentz just signed a nice-sized extension and guys like Denzel Mims and Kristian Fulton were both still available when Philly went with Hurts.

Perhaps the biggest misconception is Philly went the route of adding a backup quarterback in Round 2 when, in actuality, Hurts will enter the 2020 season as the third quarterback on the depth chart. Maybe that doesn’t help ease any minds, but here’s something that Eagles fans can probably bet on.

You may see more of Hurts than Sudfeld in 2020 if things go according to plan. Teams that take guys in Round 2 expect them to contribute immediately, and that figures to happen here. Expect Philly to put in a package for a rookie who, on the surface, seems to have more physical tools and a higher ceiling than the guy they currently employ as the backup.

Big things are coming in year one for Mr. Hurts with so many creative offensive minds around.
