20th-overall selection, 1982

For you younger and less-informed Eagles fans, Mike Quick brought so much more to this great franchise than some color commentary to the radio call on gameday. Oh yeah, he’s done quite well for himself in the booth, but he was pretty doggone good with a pair of shoulders pad on.

How did that phrase go? Oh. yes. “If he’s even, he’s leaving”. Never has a statement applied more to a man than that one applied to Mike Quick, the owner of an NFL record that can be tied but never be broken, a 99-yard touchdown catch and run.

That one he pulled off of the arm of the “Polish Rifle”, Ron Jaworski. Quick never looked like he was running that quickly when he had the ball in his hands, but no one ever seemed to catch up with him. The numbers look like this.

368 receptions resulted in 6,546 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns, all of which came in an Eagles jersey. Those numbers include his one playoff appearance in 1988. He’s a five-time Pro Bowl nod (1983–1987) and a two-time First-team All-Pro in 1983 and 1985 who led the NFL in receiving yards in 1983.

He’s a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame. You can make the argument that he belongs in Canton, Ohio, and his spot in the hearts of Eagles fans is secure forever. If only they could clone him and stick him on the outside for Carson Wentz.
