5. Dare we say the game ball in a Philadelphia Eagles win goes to Sidney Jones?

Heading into 2019, Eagles fans were dangerously close to reaching the consensus that Sidney Jones needed to be run out of town. No one could get the memories of what Amari Cooper had done to him in 2018 out of their heads. He always seemed to be hurt.

Let’s just be frank. The “draft him anyway and see if he gets better” plan after he ruptured his Achilles in 2017 just wasn’t working. Maybe it was time to admit that he was just fragile.

Jones, a former second-rounder, has had his issues staying on the field, to say the least. There’s also been the issue that, even though there were times when he was healthy, there was always the possibility that he could wind up being a healthy scratch.

Giving Jones any credit makes one second-guess whether or not they should be excited about what he’s doing or how he’s developed. When he makes plays that should be seen as routine, we get overly excited, and that’s probably because we haven’t seen him make enough of them. Then again, perhaps we’re all being overly-critical and harsh.

Maybe Jones is, just now, finally getting healthy. Maybe Jones is a late bloomer. Maybe he’s finally turned the corner. Here’s what’s certain. Some of those bigger moments we talk about in 2019 by some of his teammates were set up because Jones made a less-talked-about play leading up to it. Regardless of where you stand on that, you have to admit that breakup versus the Dallas Cowboys at the end of the game was pretty special.

Admit it. You smiled when it happened, didn’t you? You were happy for him, weren’t you? Why? It’s because you knew he deserved that. We’ll see how things go for him in 2020.
