3. Examples of great character won’t show up on the Philadelphia Eagles’ stat sheet, and Jalen Hurts has a ton of it.

Sure, Lincoln Riley enjoyed having Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray during the two seasons before Hurts’ rival, but the production we saw from Hurts in his final season and seeing him wind up as the runner up for the Heisman Trophy this past January makes one wonder what he would have done under Riley for three seasons.

Hurts is a baller, and he’s shown what he can do despite a lack of consistency and having to learn from six different offensive coordinators in six seasons. That includes his high school run. With consistency from his coaching staff, which he should enjoy in Philadelphia, Hurts will soar. We already know about his maturity, his preparation, and his work ethic.

What’s most important, however, is what doesn’t show up on stat sheets. Hurts is the embodiment of a man with great character. He’s a proven leader. He’s a great teammate. He’s never been arrested. Perhaps those are the aspects of his personality that we don’t mention enough.

It’s easy to see why Philly took this guy, even if you disagree about the selection or whether it was too early. The sky is the limit. Expect the “Birds” to find creative ways to utilize him in their offense sooner rather than later.
