The Philadelphia Eagles obstacle with Peters isn’t for the reason you’d think.

Let’s not waste a ton of time here. There are only two reasons why Jason Peters isn’t currently a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. It comes down to two factors, as it always does. One of them is his age. He turned 38 years old in January. That’s almost ancient for any NFL star, even one with a resume like “The Bodyguard” has crafted for over 16 NFL seasons.

The other factor is obvious. It’s, without question, his price tag. That’s the one reason Philly allowed him to walk in the first place. Strangely enough, however, or maybe not depending on which teams you’re speaking of with a need at left tackle, Mr. Peters remains unsigned as the world passes the halfway point of June.

Teams have instead elected to re-sign their own guys, bank on less expensive options, or, simply, try guys who are younger. It’s obvious Peters’ high price tag and stubbornness to budge from the dollar amount he’s placed on his services plays a role, but the longer he’s been available a perennial conversation piece is making its way around the Eagles fan base and around the Philadelphia media again. You know the one, but as of now, is a reunion with “The Bodyguard” possible?

The Philadelphia Eagles’ biggest hindrance to re-signing Peters isn’t for the reasons you are thinking.

Let’s be frank. Again, if the conversation was simply about Peters wanting a nice payday, he would have already been in an Eagles jersey. Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman has no issue with securing the pen with the thumb, placing it between the middle and forefinger, and writing a nice check (or guaranteeing a salary or anything else). That isn’t the issue.

The real problem is this. If there is an NFL season in 2020 (and goodness, we’re hoping that it is), the question, since March, has been what is that going to look like? Fans may be absent, and even if they aren’t, at most, they’ll be few in number and scattered all over their respective stadiums.

If that’s the case, the majority of the revenue every NFL team generates from their dollar amount is lost. That results in billions of dollars lost in NFL revenue. That’s sure to make owners and G.M’s watch their purse a little more closely.

That means if you’re a “Birds” fan and you want Jadeveon Clowney added, you might want to hang that up, especially with this Eagles team’s cap concerns for 2021. That also means, despite the concerns over Andre Dillard and the injury to Brandon Brooks, the readdition of Jason Peters is no sure thing. Keep an eye on this one everybody. This is a long way from being settled.
