Philadelphia Eagles: An argument for Adrian Killins making their roster
By Hunter Doyle
What does Killins in the Philadelphia Eagles offense look like?
Given the similarities that Killins shares with some of the NFL’s current track stars, he deserves a shot to wear the Philadelphia Eagles uniform. Speed kills into today’s NFL. Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, Russell Wilson, and D.K. Metcalf are all prime examples of that theory. Philly drafted two receivers (John Hightower and Quez Watkins) who posted two of the ten fastest 40-yard dash times among wideouts at the most recent combine and had Jalen Reagor’s unofficial time from his virtual pro day been included, it would have been three of the fastest 40 times.
Not to mention the fact that they traded for Marquise Goodwin, who ran a 4.27 40-yard dash and competed at the 2012 Olympics.
We’ve seen how players like Killins can contribute to an NFL offense. Eagles fans saw it just last year in Philly with Boston Scott. Pederson’s ability to use Scott to his strengths and scheme him into space was a thing of beauty. If he can do that with Killins, this Eagles offense could be scary.
Killins can change any game on one play. The Eagles put up 19 combined points in two weeks versus the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. Someone like Killins could have turned the tide. Ineffective play on offense happens a lot in the NFL, and if a team isn’t firing on all cylinders, it’s nice to have a playmaker when all else fails. The Eagles didn’t have enough of those in 2019. They seem to have added a few in 2020.
With Duce Staley and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland on the coaching staff, Killins is assured of having his opportunities should he make the team. The Eagles could use a short-yardage back. Speed and acceleration won’t be enough to earn this guy a roster spot. If he can bulk up, Killins could easily be one of the top players to watch this preseason. He should be kept around if he doesn’t make the active roster. This team has seen its share of injuries, and this undrafted rookie could pay huge dividends if the Eagles make a fourth-straight playoff appearance in 2020.
