20 Philadelphia Eagles who could be released before training camp
The Philadelphia Eagles’ front seven and offensive line has a ton of bodies and quite a few certainties for the 53-man roster.
On a team led by a head coach and a defensive coordinator that has never valued the linebacker position, the emergence of Nathan Gerry, the addition of Jatavis Brown, and the potential that T.J. Edwards possesses is enough to make the argument that Dante Olson won’t make this team come September.
The fact that Philly selected both Davion Taylor and Shaun Bradley in the most recent draft before adding Olson as an undrafted free agent is another sign of where things are headed for this six-foot-three prospect out of Montana.
With Isaac Seumalo being a shoo-in to make the roster, with Matt Pryor being the favorite to take over for an injured Brandon Brooks, and with guys who are already familiar with the system like Sua Opeta and Nate Herbig vying for a roster spot, Julian Good-Jones’ days seem to be numbered.
Four defensive tackles are already locked to make this Eagles team (Fletcher Cox, Malik Jackson, Javon Hargrave, and Hassan Ridgeway), and that’s probably all the defensive tackles that this team will carry on the 53-man roster. You’d have to figure Anthony Rush and Bruce Hector are the next men up if anything happens. Raequan Williams is, no doubt, sweating right now.
Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Jalen Mills, Rodney Mcleod, Sidney Jones, and K’Vom Wallace are going to make this team. Rasul Douglas signed a one-year deal and figures to make a case for himself and make the roster as well. Every other safety, cornerback or defensive back should be nervous, including the unknowns like Prince Smith.
