. . Alex Okafor, defensive end. 97. player. 124.

Why do we keep talking about these Philadelphia Eagles defensive ends?

Sure, you could probably throw Taco Charlton’s name here as well, but after seeing the rival Dallas Cowboys give up on him after two seasons, it’s easy to ask about what might be going on there. That’s a major red flag.

The Eagles’ defensive ends have been a major subject of conversation for quite some time. This could be Brandon Graham’s last ride in 2020. That makes Derek Barnett the guy, which is scary. He doesn’t look like he’s what we thought he would be. After that, we’re talking about Gernard Avery, Josh Sweat (he’s a maybe), Shareef Miller (um, no), and Daeshon Hall, a man that could be given Pro Bowl or MVP consideration if those awards were given out after the preseason.

The discussions about Jadeveon Clowney and Yannick Ngakoue seem to have died, so if Philly wants to add anyone, they can, again, go fishing in another draft, depending on what Casey Toohill turns out to be.

If that doesn’t work out, the “Birds” might do what they always do, trade for someone and give him too much money. Enter Alex Okafor. According to Spotrac, in 2020, he’ll be on the books for “a base salary of $4,700,000, a roster bonus of $171,875, a workout bonus of $100,000 and an incentive bonus of $250,000”. He also carries a 2020 cap hit of $7,221,875. This could help Philly’s pass rush, but it definitely doesn’t do much for those cap issues the team has in 2021.
