. . . Tyrann Mathieu. 32. player. 54

Okay Philadelphia Eagles fans, this sounds ridiculous, but hear us out.

It feels like Tyrann Mathieu is already a fifteen-year veteran but believe it or not, despite the fact that he’s already been on three NFL rosters in his first seven seasons as a professional, this guy is only 28 years old and won’t turn 29 until next May. You can argue that Mathieu’s best years are still ahead of him.

Sure, Philly’s got a ton of cap issues leading into 2021’s season, but the removal of a few high dollar Eagles will calm a lot of that discussion down quickly. Think about it. Arguments can be made that we’re seeing the final tours of everyone from the aforementioned Brandon Graham to DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery to Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones.

Philly took K’Von Wallace in the most recent draft, and much is expected of him. He’s already been backed by two Eagles legends, and the term “steal” is getting tossed around. Davion Taylor was drafted by the Eagles as a linebacker, but it feels like his natural fit is at the safety position somewhere down the road.

Rodney McLeod is in the fold as well. We also know the Eagles, particularly defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, love versatile players and Mathieu is expensive, but he’s not someone you just gloss over. If Jalen Mills is done after 2020, Mathieu could play the “hybrid” role in Philly’s defense. Keep in mind the fact that the Chiefs have a potential out in his contract after the 2020 season. Keep an eye on this one. It’s going to be hard to pay him now. Things could get interesting.
