The Philadelphia Eagles’ rival from the ‘Big Apple’ is dealing with special teams injuries as they continue to search for a kicker.

One month after the New York Giants released former Pro Bowl placekicker Aldrick Rosas (he was charged with three misdemeanors in an alleged hit-and-run in California), the team is still in an unenviable position of scrambling to find the man who will serve as his replacement.

Initially, the Giants hired the services of journeyman placekicker Chandler Catanzaro on August 1st, only to replace him with former Carolina Panther and veteran Graham Gano a few weeks later. Catanzaro actually retired from the NFL during the 2019 offseason, but he decided to return when the Giants came calling.

Following the move, new Giants head coach Joe Judge said the following via Giants.com:

"We’re not going into all the details in terms of the exact move until things are finalized, but I will tell you we informed Chandler this morning we did move on from him. I will just say he did a tremendous job for us. I have a lot of respect for him; he’s definitely an NFL kicker. I think he made the right decision coming out of retirement."

The news of Gano’s arrival in New York was quickly marred when special teams standout Cody Core suffered a torn Achilles, officially ending his chances of participating in the 2020 season. The 26-year-old became an integral part of the Giants’ special teams after arriving from Cincinnati in 2019, earning a two year, $4 million extensions in the 2020 offseason for his efforts.
