Just take a look at what Donovan McNabb had to deal with before the arrival of Terrell Owens to this Philadelphia Eagles franchise.

From 2001-2003, the Philadelphia Eagles fought their way to three consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances. Coached by Andy Reid, the Eagles did so with an absolutely ferocious defense lead by Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins and legendary defensive coordinator in Jim Johnson.

Their offense was lead by tremendous offensive lines anchored by tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, an often above-average backfield, and the brilliance that was Donovan McNabb. If only they had fielded a capable receiving corps.

Before Terrell Owens had the town in the palm of his hand, McNabb was throwing touchdowns and winning games with James Thrash, Todd Pinkson, an over-the-hill Antonio Freeman for a single season, and Freddie Mitchell. The latter was drafted in the first round ahead of Chad Johnson, Reggie Wayne, and Quincy Morgan.

Yes, the NFC was VERY weak at the time, and the rosters and coaching staffs were very solid in this era, but the fact of the matter is this unit was able to reach three straight Conference Championship Games. A strong case can be made, however, that they would have reached another Super Bowl had it not been for sub-par play at wideout.
