How can Philadelphia Eagles fans rank this low on anyone’s fan ranking?
Seventh? How on Planet Earth can the Philadelphia Eagles be seventh?
For years, one of the biggest components in Philadelphia Eagles lore has been the passion of its rowdy collections of fans. You’re probably sick of hearing the Santa Claus story. You’ve, no doubt, heard about the ‘500 level’ and the jailhouse at Veterans Stadium if you’re one of those younger ‘Birds’ fans, even if you never got a chance to experience it yourself.
Then, there’s the sound of the stadium. Seriously, who cheers for their team more loudly or boos their team when frustrations bubble over with the intensity of a ‘Birds’ fan?
The passion, dedication, and, sometimes, angst of this Eagles fan base tells you two things simultaneously. One, no NFL fan cares more about what happens with their team than this one, and second, no matter how angry this fan base gets at their favorite team, you know, under normal circumstances, they’re going to pack Lincoln Financial Field every single stadium (or the opponent’s stadium that Philly’s traveling to play on any given week.
Seriously, did you see FedExField last season when Philly made the trip there in 2019? That was a glorified home game. As was their 2017 trip to the West Coast to meet the Los Angeles Chargers at StubHub Center in 2017. There are more Eagles fans there than Chargers fans.
Recently, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports discussed that and more as he ranked what he believes to be the ten best fan bases in the NFL. This one’s courtesy of The Herd with Colin Cowherd’s official YouTube channel. Take a look.
Seriously. Seventh? We demand a recount. If you’ve been reading Inside the Iggles, which we affectionately call ‘ITI’ for a while, you know about the respect we have for the legendary Ray Didinger. Once upon a time, while speaking at the end of a very entertaining documentary, The Complete History of the Philadelphia Eagles, he put it this way.
"The Eagles are a family heirloom who are passed down from generation to generation… The Eagles are a part of your family… They’re a part of who you are."
That’s a drop-the-mic moment if we’ve ever heard one. To be frank, nothing else needs to be said after that one.
