2 NFL wizards believe Philadelphia Eagles may be a top-five NFC team
Two respected NFL voices have tons to say about the Philadelphia Eagles.
We can throw stats at you that prove the Philadelphia Eagles have been all-time good in a few areas over the past two seasons, but you won’t pay them any attention. We can statistically prove that Carson Wentz has played at a noticeably elite level since he’s been in the league, but you won’t pay that any attention either.
We could use the eyeball test and say that, even though they’ve fallen into droughts of ineffectiveness on both offense and defense over the past two seasons, this Eagles team has been scary good when they’ve needed to be.
Here’s what you need to know about 2020’s version of the ‘Birds’. It’s completely logical to say that this team could fall into a hole early in the regular-season campaign, one they won’t be able to crawl out of in December as they’ve done in each of the past two seasons. It’s also very logical to say that, if the ball bounces appropriately, this team could find themselves in the NFC title game. That’s how thin the line is between mediocrity and greatness.
The Philadelphia Eagles get some major kudos from PFT.
Quite often, Mike Florio and Chris Simms can make a few statements that make ‘Birds’ fans a little hot under the collar. Who knows? Maybe they had a nice breakfast or something, but in a recent early-morning segment of their highly-popular Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports, Philly was the topic, and the duo gave every fan of this team a few reasons to smile.
Florio stated ‘If they can ever get their best 11 on each side of the ball, they’re a force to be reckoned with, and if it happens this year, they’re going to be one of the last teams standing in the NFC’. Simms, the son of a former New York Giants signal-caller, followed that up by stating. ‘I’m not sure I’d put them in the top three or four, but yeah, (they’re definitely dancing around that top five’. Here are a few final words for Philadelphia Eagles fans to ponder.
So, let’s do some inventory. This team has one of the league’s best front offices with one of the game’s best owners and, clearly, one of its best general managers. Their coach has proven he can lead this team through anything. Their quarterback is a stud.
Their defense is very good, and in the offseason, they made a point to fix a few areas where they may have been seen as lacking. Sure, their offensive line has taken a few hits, but if the reserves can contribute something special, this could be a great year. While some of you might be of the mindset that calling this team potentially one of the five best teams in the NFC doesn’t guarantee anything but a playoff appearance, here’s something else to take note of.
Once you get to the playoffs anything can happen. A division title is realistic. A home playoff win is doable, and so is the possibility that one of these great NFC teams could take a step backward in the coming 17 weeks of regular-season football. Don’t look now, but this 2020 Eagles team could be special. call it a crazy theory, but we expect ‘Birds’ fans to be in their seats either way.
