Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Bubble guys who could make their 53-man roster
One of the newer Philadelphia Eagles is outplaying a couple of guys that have been here for a while.
Here’s a bold statement whether you want to hear it or not. If Casey Toohill and Joe Ostman aren’t charted ahead of both Shareef Miller and Genard Avery, the only reason that would have happened is that this Eagles coaching staff is stubborn.
Once upon a time, this team didn’t emotionally overpay for players, and their goal was making sure the best guys played. Sure, they still do that for the most part, but there’s also this thing where they don’t want to give up on ‘so and so’ in favor of ‘that other guy’ because ‘so and so’ was drafted higher. That’s a trend we’ve all seen if you’ve been paying attention, but that could change in for the ‘Birds’ in 2020.
Why? It’s simple. The sixth-rounder, Toohill, and the undrafted rookie free agent acquisition from 2017, Ostman, are outplaying Genard Avery, who the Eagles dealt a 2021 fourth-round selection to acquire at the trade deadline last season. They’re both also outplaying Shareef Miller, Philly’s fourth-round selection from 2019’s version of the NFL Draft.
Let’s put it this way. Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Vinny Curry are the top for guys on the depth chart for this team at the defensive end position. We all know that. Call this a little outlandish. Call it a bold statement. Call it whatever. If the Eagles don’t have Casey Toohill and Joe Ostman on their 53-man roster prior to game one versus the Washington Football Team, there needs to be an investigation.
