Jason Peters thinks the Philadelphia Eagles should pay him more money now.

Come on. Didn’t you see this coming? Jason Peters has never been shy about asking for his money, never in the 12 years that the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans have gotten a chance to get to know him, so following the news from Doug Pederson that second-year left tackle Andre Dillard would miss the 2020 regular season with a biceps injury, one of the immediate thoughts that everyone had was this.

‘Well, we can just move J.P. back to left tackle right’? It seems like, out of all of the options that Philly has, that one would be the easiest and the one that makes sense. Not so fast guys!

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson met with the Philly media on Saturday prior to an indoor practice, and though he wouldn’t confirm or deny that being the plan, Coach will still take the remaining on-field opportunities that the ‘Birds’ have to get a few looks at Jack Driscoll, Matt Pryor and Jordan Mailata on the left side of the offensive line, Carson Wentz’s blindside.

One might be able to affirm that a position switch for ‘The Bodyguard’ is, very much, in play because shortly after lunchtime on the East Coast, on the final Saturday on August, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported that the future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee wants more money if he’s expected to play the left tackle position. Here’s a quick reaction if you’re thinking like a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Before we say anything else, we’ll say this. Football is a business. That’s why the ‘Birds’ asked Malcolm Jenkins to restructure his deal to save the team money. That’s also a part of the reason why Philly let Jenkins walk instead of paying him.

That’s why Philadelphia said goodbye to J.P. this past offseason in favor of a younger and less-expensive Andre Dillard. It’s why Philly brought ’71’ back after Brandon Brooks got hurt. It’s why J.P. wants a few more coins now.

A higher premium is placed on tackles than guards, especially the ones that can play. We all know that. ’71’ knows his value. We all know that too. How in the world can anyone be upset at Peters for asking for what he believes he deserves?

Isn’t that what you do at your job? Don’t you think you should get more money when you’re given more responsibility? It sucks to cover for the boss when he’s gone knowing that you’re going to get the same amount of money on your paycheck at the end of two weeks that you’ve always been getting, isn’t it? Whether this is Jason Peters putting himself ahead of the team or a man keeping his best interests in perspective is up for discussion, but keep an eye on this one. You can trust and believe a few more twists and turns will come out of this one before it’s all said and done.
