Did you ever think Philadelphia Eagles could get this angry at Jason Peters?

Who would have thought? Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Peters may be in danger of damaging his legacy in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ forever. For four months, ‘The Bodyguard’ sat on the open market as a free agent, and no one called him. Then, Brandon Brooks got hurt. Had that never happened, Peters might still be unemployed.

Why are we talking about this? Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, Philly’s starting left tackle, Andre Dillard suffered a season-ending biceps injury, and Peters, a man the Eagles reacquired to play guard but, let’s be honest, also represented some insurance at left tackle, is refusing to move to the left tackle position unless Philly increases his salary.

As much as we all love J.P., let’s be honest about a few things. He’s 38. He’s past his prime. Again, he sat on the open market for months, and none of the other 31 teams made an attempt to sign him. What Jason Peters is doing is selfish, and if he isn’t careful, he might be in danger of ruining his legacy in Philadelphia. He’s basically holding the team to ransom.

Here’s something no Philadelphia Eagles fan wants to see.

As much as this may hurt to envision, think about something for a second. The ‘Birds’ play the Washington Football Team on September 13th. Just in case you’re unaware, that’s a team loaded with deficiencies, but their pass rush isn’t one of them. They feature a front seven that includes Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne, and the rookie sure thing, Chase Young.

What will it look like if someone comes off of the edge, they beat Jordan Mailata or whoever else is over there, and Carson Wentz is sent to the medical tent while a stubborn Jason Peters is playing right guard?

Peters needs to be a team player here, and the veterans and leaders on this team need to remind him of that. He accepted a $3 million deal, which, all things considered, is fair. No one got upset when he was making a small fortune and battling injury or when the Eagles won the Super Bowl with him standing on the sideline. No one asked him for any money back when he missed games. He’s 38. He’s past his prime, but he’s still the best option that this team has at left tackle.

The organization needs him. His coaches and his quarterback need him. People are angry, and they should be. Peters was given a lifeline, and for him to do this right now is bogus. He needs to do the ‘Birds’ a solid here. Failure to do so and potential injury to Carson Wentz could damage this man’s standing in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ forever. Now, did you ever think that you’d say that?
