Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster projection, September edition
Here’s where things really get interesting for these Philadelphia Eagles.
Philly’s most maligned offensive position from a season ago took center stage as the Eagles entered the 2020 NFL Draft, and if we’re being honest, almost, five months later, it’s still one of the biggest and most interesting conversation pieces as we close in on the deadline for Philly to name the 53 men who will make their active roster.
Just three months ago, most of us were of the impression that DeSean Jackson, Jalen Reagor, Marquise Goodwin, Greg Ward, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside were locks and that Alshon Jeffery’s spot was secure by the time he returned from the team’s physically unable to perform list.
Fast forward and Jeffery is indeed hurt (as is Jalen Reagor). Goodwin opted out of the 2020 season and just about every wide receiver the Eagles have had in camp has looked good.
Verdict: DeSean Jackson, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Reagor, John Hightower, Greg Ward, and Quez Watkins with Alshon Jeffery on the PUP list
Last season, the Eagles surprised everyone who thought they’d designate three roster positions for three tight ends when they went with two tight ends on their initial 53-man roster. This year, had Josh Perkins been healthy, we’d say that he’d be the third guy. With him out, we believe the ‘Birds’ follow the same blueprint they used a season ago.
Two tight ends will appear on the 53-man roster. In short-yardage and goal-line sets, they’ll go the route of bringing in an extra offensive lineman to help pass protect and run block.
Verdict: Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert
