2 More reasons Philadelphia Eagles can’t trade Zach Ertz
2. There’s no reason for this Philadelphia Eagles team to rush.
Somewhere along the line, we’ve forgotten about what Ertz and Goedert’s situation is. Goedert is in the third year of his rookie deal. Ertz had an option exercised which means that he’ll be in the fold for this season and next season. Philly can then make a determination about what to do with them in 2021.
There’s no need to rush here. In the meantime, can we all just enjoy what this team has?
The Eagles have one of the most gifted young signal-callers in the NFL in Carson Wentz. It’s amazing that some of you all still don’t know that, but those are the facts. Wentz can play.
The Eagles have speed on the outside with Jalen Reagor, DeSean Jackson. and John Hightower. They potentially have a few guys that can be physical on the outside and in the middle of the field in Alshon Jeffery and JJ Arcega-Whiteside. Add a talented trio of backs to the mix and both Ertz and Goedert to wreak havoc, and what we have is, potentially, two game-changers at tight end who can help this team a lot on third down and in the red zone.
Now, why would we want to break that up if we didn’t need to? Then again, why do the Eagles need to rush? Rushing into deals is why they’re stuck with Alshon Jeffery. Bad deals are why this team is always struggling with cap issues. Bad deals are why this team can’t pay Ertz now as they should have. We fully understand where Ertz is coming from, but if we’re being objective, there isn’t a reason to rush.
Philly can simply wait until 2021 and re-assess then, so in the meantime, while many of us want Ertz to be an Eagle for years to come, ‘Father Time’ is undefeated. It may be wise to let the next 31 regular-season games play out before more money is shelled out. It’s just hard to think about the fact that Philly caved to Peters and won’t do the same for ’86’. Hey, that’s the Eagles for you.
