Philadelphia Eagles may not see several 49ers starters when Week 4 arrives
The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t the only NFC team dealing with injuries.
Though it may seem like the injury bug doesn’t bite anyone except the Philadelphia Eagles, Doug Pederson‘s team isn’t the only squad that came into the 2020 season with playoff aspirations that now has had to juggle a few bodies. In 2020, NFL stars are going to get quite a few opportunities to familiarize themselves with a few backups and lesser-known talents.
How might that affect games? Well, we won’t know until it happens, but Eagles fans know better than anyone that losing someone that you had high hopes for (Carson Wentz) could pave the way for a legend to come seemingly from nowhere (Nick Foles).
Injuries ravaged the ‘Birds’ in 2017, but Philly raised the Lombardi Trophy in February of 2018. Truthfully, this team has been dealing with injuries ever since, but in 2020, after only two weeks of action, there are quite a few NFL franchises that are dealing with the prospect of carrying on without a few difference makers. Just take the San Francisco 49ers for instance.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 4 clash will feature some new faces.
Despite coming out on top in the NFL’s second week of action, the San Francisco 49ers walked off the field feeling, quite possibly, as down as any team can feel after a win. Remember how you felt when the Eagles went to Los Angeles and beat the Rams in 2017 to take the NFC East but you also knew that Carson Wentz may be lost for the season? Well, those are the same emotions that Niners fans are dealing with on Monday morning.
San Fran lost Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas (both were carted off), and to make matters worse, their franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a leg injury. Former Eagle Raheem Mostert left the game as well and didn’t return.
Keep in mind the fact that, despite theories that George Kittle could return in Week 3, the Niners lost him last week, and he may be gone for some time. Though many of the early indications aren’t positive if you love San Francisco (ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared some news that Bosa’s 2020 season may be over) as football fans you hate to see anyone get hurt.
These guys aren’t just Madden ratings and stats on your Fantasy football team, they’re people, and though the competitor in all of us wants to see our favorite team win and you can’t deny that an Eagles team facing a Niners club minus Bosa, Thomas, possibly Kittle, Mostert, and Garoppolo has an advantage, you also have to admit that beating a team that broken means the win loses some of its oomph.
That’s life in the NFL though. Will these guys play in two weeks? Time will tell, but Philly shouldn’t look too far ahead. Next on the schedule is the Cincinnati Bengals, and if the ‘Birds’ don’t prepare properly for them, they’ll be 0-3 in this young season.
