Bates and Mixon could be a factor against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Safety Jessie Bates III is one of those grinders that won’t get many headlines because other players at the position benefit from being household names. Originally a second-round draft pick in 2018, the Wake Forest product carved a place in the Bengals starting lineup right out of the gate.

Bates has started in all 34 games that he’s been available for since he joined the NFL. He’s also recorded six interceptions and broken up 12 passes, two of them this season. Against the Browns in Week 2, the third-year safety was relatively quiet and only had three solo tackles, but the Eagles could present him with a good opportunity to bounce back if they don’t account for him.

. . . Joe MIxon, running back. 3. player. 56

Running back Joe Mixon will never get the recognition he deserves for three reasons. The first one is that he plays in Cincinnati, which in itself won’t get anyone national attention. The second one is that that the Bengals haven’t been very good since they drafted Mixon out Oklahoma. Last but not least, other running backs such as Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara have gotten the headlines and deservingly so. Mixon hasn’t gone totally unnoticed and received praise from New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, who called him a young and inspiring player.

Mixon has had a slow start this season, but that’s true for pretty much all of the Bengals’ players. After tallying just 35 carries for 115 yards, it’s just a matter of time before he breaks out. The Eagles’ Week 3 game will provide him with the opportunity.
