Deontay Burnett could be promoted to the Philadelphia Eagles active roster.

Unfortunately, Philadelphia Eagles fans learned on what ‘Birds’ fans affectionately call ‘WentzDay’ that their first-round selection of 2020’s NFL Draft will miss some time with an injury. Jalen Reagor could miss around two months with a torn UCL in his thumb, and he might not be available to return until after Philly’s bye in Week 10.

This is a tough loss considering the fact that Reagor was one of the lone bright spots in a disastrous couple of weeks for this Eagles’ offense. In his first two games, he hauled in five receptions for 96 yards and was gaining separation consistently, even when he wasn’t getting the ball. He’s shown flashes of his potential, and every time Eagles fans look at the number 18 on the field, it brings back memories of Jeremy Maclin.

An already struggling Eagles’ offense will have to employ the ‘next-man-up mantra. The belief around the Novacare complex is that Alshon Jeffery still needs a few more weeks before he’s ready to suit up. Until then, we’ll probably see more of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside at the ‘X’, or primary, wide receiver spot which isn’t good news.

Reagor’s absence and Isaac Seumalo’s addition to the team’s injured reserve opens up two roster spots (if Reagor joins him there), and if the Eagles decide to bring up another receiver, there’s a strong chance it will be practice squad wideout Deontay Burnett. Let’s take a look at why that might be the case.
