Here’s some good news if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan

They may frustrate you on the field. They may make you feel like turning in your fan card from time to time, even though you know that you never will. Still, as bad as it has been here and there over the past three seasons (and probably before that), Philadelphia Eagles fans know that they can depend on these guys for one thing.

They’re just as good off of the field as they’ve shown us that they can be on it. Just look at what we’ve seen in just the Doug Pederson era. We won’t even bring up guys like Troy Vincent and Brian Dawkins.

There’s Chris Long, who played for free at times and donated all of his game checks to charity. You can bring up the work that Malcolm Jenkins did in the community. There’s Eagles CEO and Chairman Jeffrey Lurie’s Eagles Autism Foundation and Carson Wentz’s AO1 Foundation. The Eagles are almost synonymous with philanthropy.

Philadelphia Eagles safety Rodney McLeod got some shine this week.

Rodney McLeod is a quiet guy, both on and off of the field. Anointed as a captain right before the start of 2020’s regular-season campaign, ’23’ may not be exactly what Malcolm Jenkins was, but you can tell his teammates respect him and they feel better when he’s on the field.

Like Jenkins, McLeod is also being recognized for what he’s done off of it. Recently, he was named the NFL Players Associations’ Community MVP for Week 2 after distributing 40,000 pounds of fresh food for families through he and his wife Erika’s Change Our Future Foundation. He also took the time to poll information and help people register to vote on-site.

Like Jenkins, Long, Dawkins, and Wentz, McLeod is a shining example of why, though we won’t always admit this, professional athletes can be role models. The Eagles continue to field guys that you can cheer for on the playing field and off of it.
