5 Philadelphia Eagles positives, negatives, not including Carson Wentz
If you told any Eagles fan during the offseason that Philadelphia would once again be strapped with injury this early in the season, they may not have wanted to hear it, but then again, you wouldn’t be able to give them a hard time if they believed the statement.
After three weeks, we’re still discussing the physical limitations of this team. Jalen Reagor won’t be around for a while. Dallas Goedert has gone down, and DeSean Jackson is dealing with something again. This team is extremely thin on talent, and now, this team may need to add Jackson, Avonte Maddox, and Jason Peters to their injury report.
A lot of heat has been on Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman and for good reason. Over-commitment to aging players and a series of extremely questionable draft picks are some of the main reasons this team is in the situation they are in.
Just look at what’s going on with some of them. Nate Gerry constantly blows assignments. Jalen Hurts fumbled the football on Sunday, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside isn’t seeing any balls thrown in his direction. This franchise needs to turn the heat up on Roseman.
Yes, we’re talking about the same offensive line that didn’t allow a sack versus Aaron Donald. In Week 3, this unit was as unprepared and undisciplined as any unit could be. Jason Peters, the man who wanted to get paid like a left tackle, didn’t play like one. He played like an old man.
Just about every offense linemen drew a penalty, and that includes two that knocked Philly out of field goal range not once, but twice during overtime.
It is time to face the music about Doug Pederson. His decision making is questionable, This offense is stale. Period.
Everyone has heard the expression ‘a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, well the Eagles have an extremely weak link in linebacker Nathan Gerry. We’ve all watched as he has blown assignment after assignment, which leads us all back to Howie Roseman the way he’s put this team together.
There’s no need to go into great detail on this. Gerry will continue to fail this team as long as he’s on the field, and based on the eyeball test, his presence on the field creates a weakness that opposing teams will be able to exploit all season.
