4 NFL free agents Philadelphia Eagles should still consider
One year after an injury, can Lamar Miller help the Philadelphia Eagles win?
There’s no nice way to spin this. Outside of one good year with LeGarrette Blount and Jay Ajayi and one of the wisest decisions that this team has ever made, drafting Miles Sanders, the ‘Birds’ have had a rough go at the running back position recently. They kept reacquiring Darren Sproles when it was clear that his best days were behind him and his body wasn’t going to hold up anymore.
They also gave up on their leading rusher from 2018, Josh Adams. Well, that one seems to be a wise decision, but the argument can be made that maybe if they were going to keep giving Corey Clement chances (he’s ended the last two seasons on the injured reserve), perhaps, they shouldn’t have given up on Wendell Smallwood as early as they did.
There are so many ‘Birds’ fans that hate him, but he was much better than he’s given credit for being. Corey Clement, Boston Scott, and Jason Huntley are all on the current roster, but Philly’s coaches only seem to trust Sanders. The problem is, if they keep running him like they are, he’s going to have a very short career. Did you hear those pads cracking in Week 3? He’s got to have help, and Adrian Killins might not be the man to provide that help.
If Philly looks outside of the organization for an answer, there aren’t a ton of options, but if they want to roll the dice, Lamar Miller seems to be a better option than Derrius Guice, Marshawn Lynch, and Isaiah Crowell. Miller missed the entire 2019 season with a torn ACL and signed with the New England Patriots in the middle of August, but he was placed on their physically unable to perform list.
He was activated on August 31st and released on September 5th, but if he can pass a physical and get an opportunity, he could spell Sanders from time to time. What’s even better is the ‘Birds’ can get him at a discount.
