The Philadelphia Eagles mishandled their left tackle conundrum.

If you like to watch superhero movies, you may recall 2008’s The Dark Knight. That one birthed a few memorable lines, including one from one of its villains, Harvey Dent. ‘You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.’ That phrase perfectly encapsulates the current state of Eagles starting left tackle, Jason Peters.

The ‘Bodyguard’ has been one of the most beloved figures in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ since he joined the team in 2009, but all good things must come to an end. In March, Philly’s brass decided against bringing him back in the offseason as they had already had his heir apparent, Andre Dillard.

Things took an unexpected turn when they lost right guard Brandon Brooks for the season and when Dillard suffered a season-ending bicep injury. Through a strange turn of events, Peters has gone from unemployed to Philly’s starting right guard position to the starting left tackle position again, thanks to a controversial raise of course. It appears that the legend, rather than be the team player, would rather capitalize and cash in on the team’s misfortunes.

Three weeks into the 2020 season, the Eagles might be experiencing buyer’s remorse. He’s a shadow of the player he once was, he’s living off his reputation and whatever sympathy fans had for him, and the angst is growing.

In Week 3, ’71’ left the game at its most crucial point because he was ‘tired’. That’s probably because his conditioning is garbage thanks to so many ‘rest days’ at practice. What’s next? Peters leaves mid-game because he needs a snack or because he forgot to water his plants? We all could be wrong on this one, but it seems like the legend doesn’t care anymore, and if that’s the case, the Eagles need someone who will actually show effort. Hey! Cordy Glenn is still available.
