4. player. 54. . . . Nate Herbig, guard

Nate Herbig is one of four Stanford men on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster.

Okay, here’s what we can say definitively. Someone at the NovaCare Complex watches a lot of Stanford football on Saturdays in the Fall. Currently, Philly employs four former members of the Cardinal. Zach Ertz’s star may shine the brightest, but until we’re able to determine how good JJ Arcega-Whiteside or Casey Toohill are going to be, the second-best Stanford alum on this roster is Nate Herbig.

This six-foot-four and 334-pound behemoth went undrafted in 2019, but he’s developed, and he’s shown that he’s ready for the bright lights of the NFL. Sure, you can make the argument that had Andre Dillard and Brandon Brooks never gotten hurt and if Jack Driscoll and Isaac Seumalo weren’t on the shelf now, Herbig might have never gotten a real opportunity.

Things change quickly in the NFL however, and as each week passes, it may be easier to state who did participate in Eagles practice than those who didn’t. The ‘new norm’ is now almost synonymous with the ‘next man up’ mantra. Herbig has filled in admirably at both the left and right guard positions, and he could play center if need be. Here’s the bright side. He didn’t even ask for a pay raise when his number was called. He just went out and did his job.
