Is an ailing 49ers team still too much for the Philadelphia Eagles to handle?

As rough as this three-game stretch to open the season has been for the Philadelphia Eagles, there’s no time for self-pity. We know ‘Birds’ fans are frustrated with the team’s 0-2-1 start, but feeling sorrow won’t change their fortune. There are 13 games left on the schedule, and Philly must prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

Although the Eagles have been stricken by bad coaching decisions, injuries, and poor on-field execution, they also have some positive things going for them. Sophomore running back Miles Sanders is running hard and showing his success as a rookie was no fluke. Their offensive line is also settling in after allowing eight sacks in the season opener.

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive end Brandon Graham is still going strong in his 11th season in the NFL. Playing opposite of ‘B.G’ is defensive end Josh Sweat, who is becoming a fixture in the Eagles’ front four. Cornerback Darius Slay is proving Philly’s management made the right decision when they traded for him this offseason.

Finally, there’s quarterback Carson Wentz. If he plays up to his potential, the Eagles will have a legitimate shot at beating the 49ers. It won’t be easy though. In Week 3, San Fran beat the New York Giants to a 36-9 pulp without almost half of their starting lineup. Kyle Shanahan is one of the best at working with what he has, but on Sunday, he may have one of his best players back, who coincidentally, is one of ten Niners the Eagles need to pay special attention to if they don’t want to leave Levi’s Stadium with another loss or their second tie of the year.
