The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line needs to keep ’11’ upright.

Bringing back left tackle Jason Peters for one last ride might not have been the savviest decision the Eagles brass has made. Had Brandon Brooks not gotten hurt in the offseason, we might not even be having this conversation, but he did, so here we are. Peters came in and was the good soldier until Andre Dillard got hurt, but once the man Philly thought would be their left tackle was out, ‘The Bodyguard’ put on his mercenary hat.

Peters wasn’t worth the drama surrounding his raise, and his play on the field is just further evidence of that. He was the weakest link in the ‘Birds’ offensive line this season and gave up three sacks. Now, he will be placed on the injured reserve list and Jordan Mailata will take over at the left tackle position. This is the Australian’s first-ever start against the 49ers. Let’s see how things play out and whether he ends up becoming an upgrade over the old man.

. . . Matt Pryor, right guard. 5. player. 54

After allowing eight sacks in their Week 1 matchup against Washington, the Eagles offensive line has settled in, even though it has gone through a ton of changes. Once Jason Peters slid back to the left tackle position, Nate Herbig took over the right guard position and stayed there through the first two games of the season, but he’s moved to left guard after Isaac Seumalo sustained a knee injury in Week 2. Matt Pryor is now playing right tackle.

Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Pryor played solidly but committed a false start that ended up robbing the Eagles of a chance to attempt what could have been a game-winning field goal. He’ll start versus the 49ers. Let’s see if he can leave his costly mistake behind him and bounce back in Week 4.
