Philadelphia Eagles take over first place with surprise win
Believe it or not, the Philadelphia Eagles are in first place.
Well, it wasn’t always pretty. As a matter of fact, they probably made you want to curse or throw something at your television at times, but when it was all said and done, the Philadelphia Eagles did what most said they couldn’t. They went on the road and got a much-needed win versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 4.
And now, believe it or not, after all of the flack that they took from it, the tie actually comes in handy. After losses by the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Football Team, and New York Giants in Week 4, with a 1-2-1 win-loss total, Philly is in first place in the NFC East.
Here’s a quick look back and ahead for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz really picked up his play after an early interception, going 18 for 28 for 193 yards and a passing touchdown. He added another 37 yards on seven carries and another touchdown with his legs.
Travis Fulgham found his way into the end zone. There were Derek Barnett and Genard Avery sightings. Alex Singleton scored on a pick-six. Josh Sweat registered another sack. San Fran made a concerted effort to stop Miles Sanders and Zach Ertz (and for the most part they did), but three defensive turnovers, their first three turnovers of the season, helped key a total-team effort win.
Next up for the ‘Birds’ is a trip to Pittsburgh to meet the Steelers. That one will be followed by a home date with the Baltimore Ravens. Philly can celebrate this one for a few hours, but once that’s over, they need to get ready for Week 5.
If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, wipe the sweat off of your brow though. For the first time all season, you’re allowed to throw up the ‘Victory Monday’ hashtags after a much-needed win in 2020.
