D-Jax hasn’t done much since returning to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Can we finally move on from DeSean Jackson? Sure, we love him, but business is business. Sure, the argument can also be made that this team isn’t quite ready to move on from its veteran receivers because the young guys haven’t proven that they’re ready for the bright lights. It’s a theory that actually makes a ton of sense. On the other hand, you can also argue that, based on what we’ve seen, Jackson and Alshon Jeffery, when they’re both ready, help give the Eagles the best chance to win.

The question needs to be asked though. Let’s say this team makes the playoffs. What do you expect from them then? A deep playoff run? That isn’t happening. Jackson was available for the first three games of the season. His body language wasn’t encouraging, and it’s become annoying to watch him pout on the sideline. The reason why he’s doing it doesn’t matter much. The facts are the facts, and the eyeball test reveals that any chance of him adding a deep threat to this Eagles offense appears to be gone.

What’s the best that you can get out of this guy? Maybe one or two games and ten more catches before he limps off of the field for good? If this Eagles team wins, it won’t be because of DeSean Jackson. When has it ever been proven that ‘D-Jax’ suddenly makes a team a contender? His presence didn’t elevate the Washington Football Team or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, did it?

Philly might get smashed by the Pittsburgh Steelers during their Week 5 tilt, but the argument can be made that it’s time to see if John Hightower and Travis Fulgham can be legitimate wide receivers in the NFL. We can talk about the consequences of that decision later.
