Philadelphia Eagles debate table: It’s time to replace JJ Arcega-Whiteside
‘JJAW’ was a full participant at Philadelphia Eagles’ practice on Thursday.
Well, if you haven’t heard, JJ Arcega-Whiteside was a full participant during the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Thursday afternoon practice session. In most cases, if a team was struggling but battling to hold on to the top spot in their division, seeing a former second-round selection return to the practice field would be a reason to celebrate, but the man they call ‘JJAW’ isn’t your normal second-rounder.
Then again, in today’s NFL that may not be true. Teams that draft players in the first or second round are expecting those players to become key contributors for the franchise for years to come, but there are plenty of times when that hasn’t happened. More and more, NFL fans are seeing teams give up on the guys earlier than they used to.
Ladies and gents, the ‘Birds’ aren’t the only team that misses on draft picks, but if you love Philadelphia, their misses are the only ones that you care about. JJ Arcega-Whiteside’s selection has come back to bite this team in the arse, and it doesn’t help that Eagles fans have to watch D.K. Metcalf, a man that they probably should have taken, wreck shop more often than not.
‘JJAW’ hasn’t caught a pass in a game that counts towards the win-loss total all season, and he’s only caught ten passes in his professional career. Do you see where this is headed?
The Philadelphia Eagles brass has to rethink this JJ Arcega-Whiteside situation.
It’s been discussed all week since ’19’ missed Week 4’s contest versus the San Francisco 49ers and the man the Eagles elevated from the practice squad to replace him came in and caught two passes, including a go-ahead touchdown.
Travis Fulgham, for one week at least, is the toast of the Eagles’ fan base. His touchdown is fresh in everyone’s memory, and Arcega-Whiteside hasn’t seen the end zone since Week 13 of the 2019 season. Some of the Eagles fan base and several members of the Philadelphia media are already talking about moving on, not only from ‘JJAW’ but from DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery as well. They believe that a youth movement and some in-game experience for the young ‘Birds’ is of the utmost importance.
Other Eagles fans and other members of the media believe in the idea of giving the Eagles ‘the best chance to win games’. They believe that’s only possible if DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery are on the field when they’re cleared to play. Regardless of what side you sit on in that argument, most are in agreement on the following statement. It’s hard to find someone that wants to see ‘JJAW’ back on the playing field during a game. We have enough evidence, at this point, to allow ourselves to believe that he isn’t an NFL wide receiver, right?
It might be hard to find an interested trade partner. Actually, it may be close to impossible, but if Philly can do so, that might be an option that they should want to explore. They may never get more for JJ Arcega-Whiteside than they can get for him right now. Ladies and gentlemen, the debate table is open.
