Here’s something Philadelphia Eagles fans wouldn’t guess about Nelson Agholor.

It’s slowly becoming one of life’s mysteries if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, this team’s inability to hire assistant coaches. Now, much has been made about Jim Schwartz actually being chosen for him and whether or not Doug Pederson has the ability to hire whoever he wants, but rather than blame these players every week for what they aren’t developing into, maybe it’s time we criticize these coaches for not bringing them along properly.

Just look at these wide receivers coaches that we’ve seen hired during Doug’s run. Greg Lewis was a decent enough player, but he wasn’t the guy to get those guys rolling. Gunter Brewer was awful Carson Walch was even worse. It’s 2020, and though he hasn’t had much time, if things don’t change with his unit, we’re going to have to start looking at Aaron Moorehead with a little more skepticism than we have been.

The only time Philly seemingly got things right for an entire season was in 2017 with Mike Groh. Say what you want. He wasn’t an offensive coordinator, but he was a decent enough wide receivers coach. 2017 was the only time a Doug Pederson-led unit got the most out of these guys. Nelson Agholor looked pretty good people! And though many of those guys are gone and the only holdover is an injured Alshon Jeffery, it appears that the aforementioned Agholor is doing just fine in Las Vegas with the Raiders.

Here’s something Philadelphia Eagles fans never thought that they would say about ‘Nelly’.

Typically, throughout recent Eagles history, if we were talking about Nelson Agholor for his hands, we weren’t doing so in flattering terms. There’s no reason to revisit any of that here, but it is what it is. 2020’s offseason came with farewells to several Eagles, both beloved and vilified.

Have you noticed that after trading midnight green for silver and black that ‘Nelly’ is putting up a few highlights though? Here’s what’s even more interesting. If you pull up the stats, among the 231 NFL players that have had at least eight passes thrown in their direction, there’s only one player that has had his quarterback score a perfect quarterback rating when he’s been the target.

Cue the drumroll. Do not adjust your television sets. Mr. Agholor is that man. Stop laughing. Trust us. We had the ITI staff double-check, but if you still need convincing, check out this tweet from the NFL on CBS’ official Twitter account.

What can you say after that? Yeah, for most of his Eagles career, ‘Nelly’ was bad, but maybe it was Greg Lewis’ fault. Maybe Walch and Brewer had a hand in it. Maybe we should blame the Eagles for not keeping Groh at the position of wide receivers coach.

Whatever side you sit on, just think about all of that. John Hightower and Quez Watkins are supposed to be better than they are. Things aren’t clicking. Yeah, Travis Fulgham seems to be pretty good, but have you stopped to think that’s probably more about Travis Fulgham and less about Aaron Moorehead? Don’t shoot the messengers. These are just theories that are being thrown out, but numbers don’t lie all of the time folks.
