5 Potential 2021 Carson Wentz replacements, if you still aren’t convinced
By now, you should be sold on Carson Wentz, but there’s no harm in scouting.
It’s been debated on more than one occasion. Should a team draft a player based on what their needs are or should that team just take the best player available? If someone was to look at the Philadelphia Eagles‘ roster, they could say with the utmost confidence and no argument that this team has more pressing needs than at signal-caller, and they’ll need to address those needs the next time the draft rolls around.
They have their franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz, and they drafted Jalen Hurts in the second round of 2020’s NFL Draft., so you’d think they were satisfied, but then again, this is the ‘Quarterback Factory’, and it’s been said on more than one occasion, though no one can remember who said it first, that Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie places a premium on quarterbacks, so much so that he stated after 2018’s season, one in which Nick Foles again came in to relieve an injured Carson Wentz, that he would prefer if his team drafted a quarterback in every selection meeting going forward.
If that were true, it does kind of explain the Clayton Thorson and Hurts selections, doesn’t it? Carson Wentz has been the subject of criticism for much of the past two seasons and the first six games of 2020, but there is a ton of support for him. Still, if we’re being honest, each time he throws yet another interception it’s easy to question if he’s the guy. Then, we’re reminded again of why we love him each time we see gutsy performances like the one everyone saw in Philly’s Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Carson Wentz should have your respect by now. He should be in the Eagles’ long-term plans for the future, but just in case you still disagree with that, here’s a list of five possible replacements in 2021. Sorry. It was hard to resist thinking about and writing about a few.
